Greeting and note cards showing The Wayside Inn, located in Sudbury, MA. Besides being the oldest, continually running Inn in America, operating as Howe's Tavern in 1716, it is also known for being the subject of the “Tales of a Wayside Inn” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, which features the famous poem about Paul Revere’s midnight ride. As well, in 1775 George Washington passed by it on his way to Cambridge to organize the troops for the Revolutionary War against the British.
This visually poetic portrait captures the soul of this hauntingly beautiful historic landmark. The painting in oil by renowned artist, David Wells Roth, known for his federal judicial portraits, is set in a winter’s night is titled “Arriving at Voyage’s End after the Winter Storm” and captures the Inn in such a way that no other artist has done before.
